FOX News runs report on Kentucky’s attempt to introduce new calendar designations

B.C./ A.D. controversy gains national attention

LEXINGTON, KYThe controversy over the Kentucky Department of Education’s attempt to introduce the new, religiously sanitized calendar designations, B.C. and A.D., into Kentucky schools is receiving attention from more national news organizations.  Reports are running today on Fox News about the controversy.

Other national news sources that have covered the issue are MSNBC’s “Scarborough Country,” the New York Forward, and the Religious News Service, a nationwide syndicate.

“While newspaper editorialists at the major newspapers in this state are comforting themselves by saying that this issue is ‘no big deal,’” said Martin Cothran, senior policy analyst with The Family Foundation of Kentucky, “their colleagues in the national media are apparently judging otherwise.”

The national attention is coming as Kentucky’s new school board takes up the issue this week.  The State School Board is meeting Tuesday and Wednesday, and is scheduled to take up the dating controversy Wednesday, although it could (and often does) change its schedule.
