Clarifications & Corrections
Speaking the truth in love is the best
personal and public policy
From, The Kentucky Citizen Digest,
January/February, 2001.
Editor’s Note:
In our September/October Digest we published an article that focused on the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) and its effort to distribute an AIDs resource packet, entitled HIV/AIDS Ministry: Putting A Face On AIDS, that contains a dubious agenda. There are several points that need to be clarified about our intent and the article’s content.
First, it was our intent to alert Baptist congregations across the state about the pro-homosexual component to the CBF’s AIDs resource packet. The packet itself clearly states, among other things, “The church needs to be a place where sexual identity and orientation can be discussed, developed, and fostered.” It was not our purpose to suggest that the Southern Baptists of Kentucky are promoting such concepts. Instead, given that the Baptists make up the largest portion of Protestant churches, our desire was to forewarn them of the spurious content. The Family Foundation is well aware that other denominations are seriously considering significant pro-homosexual validation and did not intend to isolate Baptists.
In the same Digest article the CBF was probably not described accurately when we stated: “Theologically liberal, moderate and conservative Baptists are all organized under the CBF . . ..” It would have been better stated that “Generally, moderates and more liberal Baptists created the CBF in response to a more conservative shift in the Southern Baptist Convention.” Clearly, the inclusion of pro-gay rhetoric in the AIDs resource materials would have been the work of very liberal forces within the CBF, who have arguably moved outside biblical Christianity.
The Family Foundation strongly encourages
all people to care for and love one another unconditionally and at the
same time, we do not condone behavior that is dangerous and immoral.
Therefore our comment and perspective is to condemn unhealthy actions while
encouraging care for the individual.
