Bill
letting counties regulate strip bars passes quietly
from
Kentucky Citizen Digest, April, 1999
While HB 595 was performing pirouettes in making its way through the House, another bill HB 432, was silently creeping through the process. The bill, sponsored by Louisville Democrat Jone Jenkins, would allow counties, through local fiscal courts, to regulate strip bars to the same extent that they are now allowed to regulate other businesses.
Unlike
HB 595, the bill garnered little attention as it made its way through both
the House and Senate, and finally on to the Governor for his signature.
The exact ramifications of the bill are not clear. While HB 595 was much
more specific about what localities could do, the effect of HB 532 will
likely take some time to determine. But concerned citizens dealing with
the onslaught of sleaze in their communities are thankful for whatever
help they can get.
